‘Le Tour’ hits Swaledale!
The 2014 Tour de France will pass close by The Old Vicarage.

One of the world’s largest sporting events – the Tour de France – will pass within a couple of miles of The Old Vicarage when it weaves its way through the Yorkshire Dales in July 2014.

Yorkshire was chosen to host the Grand Depart of this prestigious cycle race and the county will stage the first two days of racing on 5th and 6th of July before it moves south for a third stage in Southern England, with a finish in London.

Swaledale will see action on the first day of the race, with the 120-mile circuit from Leeds to Harrogate coming as close as Reeth – our nearest village only a couple of miles away. The surrounding hills and picturesque valleys will provide a dramatic back drop to the spectacle which will not only include the cyclists but a whole entourage of support vehicles, sponsors and entertainment.

Three million people are expected to line the route through the county and wherever you are there is bound to be an amazing atmosphere. However, we think the rugged landscape of this part of Yorkshire will really put the riders through their paces so why not come and stay at The Old Vicarage during that week and take part in the fun? We will also provide a special 'Tour de France' welcome hamper, which will contain French treats alongside the usual Yorkshire delicacies!
