We have only one week free at The Old Vicarage this summer, which starts on Friday 24 June.
This is a wonderful time to visit the Yorkshire Dales. It is outside of the main school holiday period yet the summer season is in full swing with plenty of extra things to see and do in the surrounding area.
The week falls within the Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust's Flowers of the Dales Festival 2016 and you can take part in a couple of nearby guided walks - one taking in some of the spectacular waterfalls of the River Swale and the other is a circular route around picturesque Kidson Hill. The countryside is full of flowers at this time of year and the area is famous for its spectacular upland hay meadows.
Alternatively, if you want a break from your walking boots then you might want to investigate some other kinds of footwear. Starting on 22 June is a summer-long exhibition at the iconic Bowes Museum on Shoes: Pleasure and Pain. Organised by the V&A, it's the only UK venue outside of London that will stage the exhibition before touring internationally to the UK and China. It includes shoes by Queen Victoria, David Beckham and Kylie Minogue, as well as exploring extreme footwear such as tiny lotus shoes made for the Chinese tradition of footbinding.
We are always happy to advise you about these and many other events taking place nearby.
