We are pleased to report that we have a superstar in our midst! Moya - one of our home-reared Highland cows - won three top prizes at this summer's Great Yorkshire Show, England's leading agricultural event. These were first prize in the 3-year-old class, Champion female and overall Highland Champion.
This follows her recent success at the North of England Highland Cattle Breeders Club Spring Show when she won champion status.
Another of our cows, Michaela, also won first prize in the 2-year-old class at the Great Yorkshire Show and together Moya and Michaela won first prize in the pairs class.
We were so proud of their performance as they were up against some of the best examples of the breed in Great Britain.
When they are not being divas in the show ring, both cows can be seen with the rest of the herd grazing in the fields around The Old Vicarage. These friendly animals prove very popular with guests and many of our visitors (especially the children) like to get involved with preparing them for a show. We spend hours washing and combing them so willing volunteers are always welcome!
