We have had six new Highland calves born this season. This is Craig (with his proud Mum Cannach) who was the latest to arrive at the beginning of April - and yes, believe it or not, we still had snow on the ground! Luckily, Highlands are a very hardy breed and they didn't bat an eyelid.
Thankfully the weather has now improved and the snow has given way to lush Spring grass. There are plenty of swallows wheeling around the meadows and we are now rising in the morning to hear the evocative calls of the many curlews. Not surprisingly, this striking bird was chosen as the emblem for Richmondshire and typifies the wild beauty of the Yorkshire Dales.
