Inside of The Old Vicarage

Before you arrive

Our aim is for guests to feel totally at home and we do our best to anticipate the things that will make your stay as easy and comfortable as possible. Here are some useful things to know before you get here - to help with packing and planning!

What you will find indoors

As well as having a dishwasher, fridge, gas range cooker and microwave, the kitchen is well-equipped with cooking equipment. The utility room has a washing machine, tumble dryer and freezer. We supply washing-up liquid, dishwasher tablets but you are asked to bring your own detergent. Heating, electricity and logs for the fire are included in your holiday.

Smoking is not allowed in the property at any time.

Sky television is available together with a bluetooth speaker and there is a BOSE CD/radio in the dining room.

Catering and groceries

Some guests like to pre-order their groceries. The nearest supermarkets (Lidl at Richmond, Tesco at Catterick, or Campbells at Leyburn) are 7-10 miles away; Tesco, Sainsbury's and Asda all deliver. If you would like any help organising, please call us . There are several professional catering firms locally who can serve quality food (Henry’s Kitchen, The Yorkshire Party Company, Lady G, Angel’s Share, Edwina’s Cakes).

Bedding, towels and toiletries

Quality linen and towels are provided and each bed is made up with a luxury duvet and two pillows with cushions and throws. If you have any allergy issues, please contact us in advance. Complimentary toiletries such as hand wash, shampoo, conditioner are provided.

Hampers

We know how nice it is to be able to make a refreshing drink or snack when you first arrive. Our welcome hamper typically contains tea, coffee, cereals, local bread, butter, cheese, jam,  chocolates and biscuits, as well as juice, milk, and fresh fruit. We will also pick some fresh flowers for you.

Children and babies

We can provide a highchair and travel cot if you are travelling with a baby, although we ask that you bring your own cot bedding. Please let us know when booking.

Additional bed

The Old Vicarage sleeps nine but a tenth person can be accommodated on an additional bed on request. The cost for this plus extra linen and towels is £40.

Pet policy

Dogs love it here as much as their owners! With wonderful walks straight from the doorstep and across the surrounding countryside, it’s a great place for four-legged friends to enjoy some fresh air and freedom.

Please note that dogs are not permitted in the main house living spaces, but we’ve created a specially designated pet room on the ground floor, next to the utility room. It has a window, external door, water tap, dog basket (excluding bedding), and a few useful accessories – though you’re welcome to bring your own.

If you’d like to bring a dog or other pet, please let us know at the time of booking, so we can confirm whether it’s possible for your stay. A surcharge of £40 per dog applies. Once here, pets must be properly controlled and supervised, and should not be left unattended in the pet room when guests go out.

We kindly ask that owners clean up after their pets both inside the pet room and outside the property, as well as in the surrounding fields. Extra cleaning charges will apply if this is not done. Dog waste should be double bagged and put inside the bin liner in the dustbin that is located in the rubbish/recycling shed.

Thank you for helping us to keep The Old Vicarage clean and hygienic for everyone. And for guests with allergies, please be aware that while we do our best to maintain high standards of cleanliness, we can’t guarantee the inside of the property has always been pet-free. Read more about our pet policy.

Mobile signal and Wi-fi

Mobile telephone coverage is patchy in this part of the Yorkshire Dales, but you will probably find some coverage around the property - please experiment! For emergency use only, The Old Vicarage has a telephone which also takes incoming calls: 01748 884514. The Wi-fi is good at The Old Vicarage

What you will find outdoors

You'll likely spend a lot of time in The Old Vicarage’s spacious garden, perfect for al fresco dining and outdoor relaxation. Whether it’s a friendly kick-about with our football nets or simply unwinding in the fresh air, there’s plenty of space to enjoy. Our outbuildings offer ample room for securely storing bikes and outdoor gear, making it easy to explore the beautiful surroundings.

At our private pool, you’ll find a selection of inflatable swim toys, as well as swimming and aqua aerobics aids for all ages. For those who enjoy a game of tennis, we also provide rackets and balls to use during your stay.

Access and parking

When arriving by car, the last section of the approach is via an unmade farm track. This is perfectly navigable but does require careful driving at slow speeds, especially in winter. There is ample parking and you are able to get your vehicle close to the main entrance of the house.

Please see directions to the property.
