Spring in Swaledale

Spring in Swaledale

Spring is a great time to stay at The Old Vicarage. The early flowers are in bloom and lambs are bouncing about in the surrounding fields. Each morning we wake to the sound of the curlews and the sky is full of swallows and house martins.

There is also plenty to see and do in the Yorkshire Dales, which offers some of the most spectacular scenery in Britain. Why not celebrate the arrival of Spring by taking a stroll through one of the country's finest arboretums and see the amazing variety of spring bulbs and early blossom or visit a local organic farm tucked away in a secluded valley where you can bottle feed lambs and watch chicks hatch?

Special events include the highly acclaimed Swaledale Festival, which runs from 25 May until 8 June and is heralded as one of the best music festivals in the country with over 60 top-quality acts. There is also a Magical Mayhem event at Bolton Castle from 27-31 May, a stunning medieval fortress where Mary Queen of Scots was so famously imprisoned; a classic car rally at Ripley Castle on 27 May; and a food and drink festival at Ripon on 8 June.

We are always pleased to advise guests about events in the area during their stay. There really is something for everyone in this part of Yorkshire.
