Black Sheep Beer

The award-winning Black Sheep Beer can be found all over the country but it is brewed only a few miles away at Masham. You can get behind-the-scenes on a brewery tour or buy beer at the visitors’ centre.

Brymor Ice-cream

This delicious ice-cream is produced using milk from Guernsey cows at High Jervaulx Farm, located on the A6108 between Masham and Leyburn. You can take tubs away or stop to sample some of the 25 different flavours in the ice-cream parlour.

Inspired Chocolate

Inspired Chocolate produces artisan chocolates, truffles and confectionery beautifully crafted in the nearby market town of Leyburn. As well as a shop, there is also a cafe serving waffles with drizzled warm chocolate and the naughty but rather nice Hot Pure Chocolate Shots! Chocolate making workshops run most days but should be booked in advance.

Situated in a beautiful parkland setting, close to Scotch Corner off the A66, Kacao make wonderful chocolates for you to taste and buy. Their collection includes truffles, lollipops, drink stirrers and decorated chocolate buttons in presentation jars. They have particularly wonderful ranges leading up to Christmas and Easter! Kelsey, who has worked and travelled extensively in Central and South America where the best cacao beans are grow, also runs chocolate-making workshops for children and adults alike.

Swaledale Cheese

Although not as widely known as its famous cousin from the neighbouring dale, Swaledale Cheese is equally tasty. It is handcrafted in Richmond and its origins stem from cheese-making techniques that were passed down to the farmers of Swaledale from the early Cistercian monks. Since then, this family-run company has provided a fine array of award-winning artisan cheeses. You can find it at specialist delicatessens but you can also buy direct from the company although there is no cheese-making viewing opportunity.

Wensleydale Cheese

Immortalised by Wallace and Gromit as Wallace’s favourite ‘cheeeeese’, Wensleydale cheese has a heritage that goes back long before the popular film animations! It was first crafted by a group of Cistercian monks in the 12th century and has European Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) status. You can see it being made at the Wensleydale Creamery Visitor Centre and Museum in Hawes, where there is also a restaurant.

York's Chocolate Story

This attraction is a little further afield but great if you are planning a visit to York. It provides an entertaining and informative guided tour through the history of York’s most famous chocolate-making families and their finest creations, including the Chocolate Orange and KitKat. You’ll discover chocolate's origins, how to make it and how to taste it!

Angel's Share Bakery and Delicatessen

Alex and her talented team were runners-up in the Great British Bakery TV competition and produce top-class sweet and savoury produce, including homemade breads, cakes, scones and quiches. Baked daily, the breads include white and wholemeal loaves as well as speciality breads like olive and sundried tomato. Try the Richmondshire loaf or the Brompton for a bit of local flavour or a traditional Yorkshire curd tart. It also sells a good range of quality cheeses.

Archer's Ice-cream

If you are visiting The Station or find yourselves down by the river in Richmond, then why not pop into Archer's ice-cream parlour and sample some of the best ice-cream in the area? All varieties are made locally from milk produced by the Jersey cows at New Moor Farm near Darlington, and sold in cones or individual tubs – can be eaten inside or enjoyed outside in the sunny garden area. They also serve hot waffles. For a special treat, you might also want to try one of the amazing ice-cream cakes that come in a variety of sizes – perfect for birthdays!
