The river and surrounding meadowland

Just beyond the garden is flowering meadowland, often grazed by the owner’s resident Highland Cattle.

These friendly animals are a huge hit with guests and many visitors take the opportunity to get to know them better. Children in particular love to comb their long coats, help out with the feeding or prepare them for a show.

Guests also have direct access to walks on the owner's land, which includes a private stretch of river just across the fields. This is a great place to try your hand at a spot of fishing, enjoy a family picnic, skim stones and build pebble towers, or just sit and read a book or chat. There's also an abundance of birds and wildlife to see. Otters have been spotted playing in the water and the colourful but elusive kingfishers nest here each summer.
