There’s something special about springtime at The Old Vicarage — the sound of birdsong, the warmth of the sun returning, and the quiet joy of new life in the fields. This year, two young Highland calves are capturing hearts. Osgar, a rare white calf born earlier in the season, and his charming companion Seamus are often spotted side by side, enjoying the sunshine and each other’s company — much to the delight of visiting guests.
Guests staying at The Old Vicarage frequently stop to watch the herd from the garden or while out on a local walk — and the calves are a particular attraction. Osgar, whose name means “deer lover,” has been especially popular since his arrival. With his unusual pale coat and curious nature, he’s impossible to miss — and even harder not to fall for.
Highland cattle are known for their gentle temperaments and hardy resilience, making them a natural fit for life in Swaledale. But it’s moments like this — two calves clearly enjoying each other’s company — that really charm our visitors.
If you're heading to The Old Vicarage soon, keep an eye on the fields. You might just spot this heartwarming duo enjoying their life to the full.
