Nature all around you!

Nature all around you!
Fallow deer can be seen close to the house.

One of the fantastic things about The Old Vicarage is its superb location in the heart of the beautiful Yorkshire Dales. We are surrounded by flowering meadows and woodland, and the picturesque River Swale winds its way through the fields just below the house.

It is a haven for wildlife and guests can see a wide variety of birds and animals from the doorstep. Otters have been sighted on the river bank and only very recently someone reported seeing a doe fallow deer in a nearby field, languishing with her two fawns in the long grass amongst the buttercups. A perfect moment!

At this time of year, we also have a profusion of birds. The distinctive call of the curlew can be picked out as they fly high above the pastures along with the lapwings, swifts and house martins. The river also attracts many additional species with dippers, kingfisher and grey wagtails amongst the regular visitors.

So, whether you are relaxing and taking in the views from the garden; out for a walk or cycle ride; or just pottering around the river bank, keep your eyes open - you never know what you will see!
