Show-stopping Highlands

We were thrilled to win prizes at this year's Great Yorkshire Show in Harrogate - England's premier agricultural event and the highlight of our show diary. 

Makayla and her calf Morag won the coveted first prize in the young cow in milk class and Muireal came third in the yearling category.

Most of the time you will see them looking rather shaggier than this in the fields surrounding The Old Vicarage but it's amazing what a good brush and hoof polish will do. These friendly, woolly characters are a particular hit with our younger guests who are always welcome to help with the grooming and feeding.

There are plenty of agricultural shows in the area over the summer, which always provide a fun day out for all the family. It's a good opportunity to see the many varieties of livestock breeds, as well as the traditional skills of sheepdog trialling and dry stone wall building. Our local show in nearby Reeth takes place on August Bank Holiday Monday.
